What is the V-Cup Challenge? It is a perpetual trophy
competition representing Slope VTPR style of radio
controlled glider aerobatics. This is the first of its kind
in the United States that is hoped to attract slope flyers
of all backgrounds into a unique and beautiful style of
RC flying.

The challenge consists of simple rules and parameters at
the flying site. Winners of heat sessions qualify for the
V-Cup final fly-off and the big trophy! Meets are
performed in beautiful surroundings at locations that
produce consistent winds perpendicular to the slope
face which is generally in the afternoon hours up to
sunset. Some of these sites have breathtaking views that
compliment the beautiful ballet like aerobatic
performances.

Being a personal expressive freestyle art form at its core
the most important aspect of entering the
V-Cup
Challenge
is the total choreography of the performance.
Competitors enter to perform simple and sophisticated
figures with the goal of obtaining a clean and stable
flo-motion of model control within the time limit.

VTPR by definition requires the model proximity to the terrain be very close, even touching ground through
overland performance maneuvers including tip & tail drags combined with
fluidic figures  that compliment
the whole presentation within a prescribed sky box boarder. A video sample can be viewed
here. And more
specifics on VTPR style click
here. These figures and the performance as a whole are of similar understanding
as freestyle figure skating except we are painting the sky with a purpose built aerobatic glider controlled by a
computer mixing radio. The more difficult and figurative the performance in a seamless choreographed flight
the more likely the entrant will score a better result. Model design and construction as well as pilot skills are
important to performing a solid VTPR flight. This basic description is the essence of the
V-Cup Challenge.

Judging & Scoring:

Scoring is based on a 6.0 point system. This is a "majority system". The event is judged by an odd number of
judges. The winner of the heat and final is the pilot placed highest by the majority of judges. The marks of all
judges are used in calculating the results. Highest score wins in heats and final.

Each judge will award marks to each pilot according to the judge's evaluation of these session elements:

  • Difficulty
  • Variety
  • Cleanness
  • Speed of figures
  • Presentation
  • Clock timing

The
Presentation mark reflects a judges assessment of the performance as a whole, of its composition,
originality and the use of air space.

Each judge will award marks ranging from 0.0 to 6.0 based upon the following scale:

0 - unacceptable
1 - very poor
2 - poor
3 - mediocre
4 - good
5 - very good
6 - perfect and flawless
