SoCal VTPR is a group of like-minded flyers that enjoy the fun, dangerous (to the model) and challenging aspect of "low & slow" aerobatics. If you would like to join us on the slope performing extreme-acro, we would be glad to have you. We like to get together a few times a year and fly in extreme weather conditions with our extreme models for the ultimate experience in flying and commraderie. Video cameras are always turned on ready to capture your VTPR experience. We will also be glad to help you out with model and radio set-up's, coaching and encouragement. Beware, VTPR isn't for the faint of heart. Come on out and join the FUN!

NEWS - 22 May, 2011 Announcing the "GRYPHON acro-video Contest" One of the great classic balsa aerobatic ships since 1970 is revived with new interest and flying again on the slope. To continue the energy we are sponsoring a global video contest for you to participate in and show off your Gryphon building and flying skills. Not completely VTPR style of flying but very artful and challenging.
Basic rules:
- The video needs to include the toss and landing and everything in between taken in one non-stop session.
- Minimum individual planes and pilots to make the contest official will be 6.
Lets get those kits built and in the air for a 5 minute aerobatic video. If you would like to participate and need a sub-kit to begin building, click here for all the info.
Grand prize givaway will be a new 3.0 version "foam core Gryphon full kit" to the one that dazzles the most. Judging to be performed by Slope VTPR. Send your video links here.
NEWS - 22 May, 2011 Announcing the First Bi-Annual "SoCal VTPR Fly In" Schedule date is July 9, 2011, TEMPLE HILL slope, California. This will be the first organized VTPR event for all you extreme acro pilots here in the US. This will be our first meeting to get familiar with the group and begin first steps to establishing VTPR as a recognized and viable slope sport in the US. Generally considered "freestyle flying", this group wishes to expand on this idea and go the next step toward "performance flying with flow and beauty" in a way that is distinctly American. The French have led the way for over 25 years, Americans now wish to be in the pilots seat developing their own style of VTPR and this meet signifies its beginning. Be there!
NEWS - July 10, 2011 *** First Bi-Annual "SoCal VTPR Meeting" a Success! Read all about it ... here The Fly-In on July 9, 2011, TEMPLE HILL slope California was a whole lot of fun with some great flying on hand. We had 9 flyers present and the Le Fish appeared to dominate the model line up. Big Gas showed up with his Extra acro ship looking good. Surfimp and Swiss Peter traveled all the way down from Santa Barbara with a whole hanger full of new lightweight aerobatic models. CptMike brought out his brand new Sonic 2.5, one of 2 in the country and boy did she look awesome! Yours truly Hweeler brought a new prototype 1.8m lightweight woodie that shows good promise @ 28oz. Dan arrived with a brand new 100" flying wing that flew beautifully and Dawson won the long distance award for driving over 450 miles to attend the meeting with his Le Fish heavy and LW.
The day began around 2pm with a short pilots meeting a handful of us fun flying in moderate and bumpy wind conditions. Heat was building by this time and you could see its affects on the slope. As others showed up it began to get interesting with 7 or 8 planes in the air having a great VTPR fun time. One of the highlights was CptMikes Sonic carving the sky beautifully as anticipated. A high interest in this purpose built aerobatic machine was definitely present.
The highlight of the meeting was the solo flights by those who wished to participate in a 2-3 minute flight with the slope all to themselves. Everybody walked away with a real sense of focused fun and a little pressure in the spotlight making for a real enjoyable period. This feature seems as we learned to be one of the prime events in Americanized VTPR that shows great promise for the future. The flying ended with a late afternoon fun fly with perfect glassy and cooler conditions. It seemed most just couldnt land their planes it was so nice on the slope!
The meeting ended and we all gathered at Dawson's relatives beautiful home just below the slope for a Bar-B-Que of great food and drink. A few cigars and brews were on hand for a toast and celebration of the day. All in all a great day, wish you could have been there. Click here for meeting discussion.
Two day event scheduled for June 16th, 2012, Glider Point slope, Yorba Linda CA. The conversation for this second in a series of ongoing meets begins here. We hope you can attend this exciting aerobatics meeting as VTPR continues to grow in popularity. You don't have to have any Vtpr experience to fly in this meet. Just come with your aerobatic planes or come to watch. You will have a hoot for sure!
